The deputies return to the office to find a young elf man named Anor waiting patiently at their door. He presents a letter written in a strange language (elven), written on fine silky smooth paper.

The letter reads:

I greet you fledgling deputies.
I send word to you from beyond the northern wall.
I hope that I can trust in you what I have known to trust in those that came before you; that our arrangements be kept in effect and our peace and prosperity in tact.
I feel I do not need to tell you the consequences if our treatise is forsaken.
The solstice moon rises in two months.

They ask around about arrangements but nobody knows much.

John and Karg overhear and mention seeing the Old sherrif when they lived near Tarv’s rest, with a high top canvas cart.

They are alerted by John Carpenter of a Death dog on the middle bridge.

They kill the dog, but Dewey got badly infected, and Turner’s respiratory system was infected by deathrot.

William and Griggor went to research the unreliable well, and found that two wells south was fine. The farmer at the first well had missed harvest time, and claimed the well was haunted.

They all visited the doctor, who used a silver liquid to heal Dewey’s deathrot.

The doctor also mentions that the cause of Turner’s fainting was an agreement with the elves made by the old Sherrif.

They then go to talk with the headmistress of the brothel and she informs them that the sherrif’s office owed two goats and a pig worth of debt, for the procurement she helped Arthur with.
